Twelfth Saturday

River empty, calm.

Ferries, barges, tugs all docked.

Waves break on far shore.

Sliding into view,

Blue kayaks on gray water,

Black paddles flashing.

Fisherman walks by.

No poles, buckets, bait. He smiles.

Still too cold to fish.
