Ostia Antica

On our last day in Rome we went out to Ostia Antica, which had been the port for thousands of years until the river changed its course. The mosaics are astonishingly well preserved. I’m not much of a one for ancient history or archeology (sorry, Dana) but I’m a sucker for beautiful and this is beautiful.

More, as usual, on Flickr. Note: I contemplated tinkering with the contrast to make more startling photos. But I left them as is. This is Ostia on a cloudy day, as we saw it.
